About Us

Bomber Legends was formed from the International B-24 Liberator Club. The B-24 Liberator Club, established in 1968, was dedicated to preserving the history of the B-24 Liberator bomber and its derivatives, including the PB4Y-2 Privateer. Started by the late Robert McGuire, a former USN PB4Y-1 combat photographer, the club captured and preserved the stories and history of the Liberator for over 40 years.

The Club is dedicated to perpetuating the memory of the B-24 and PB4Y and their crews. Although Bob passed on in the early 1990's, Briefing celebrated its 34th year of continuous publication in 2003.

Following Bob's passing in 1993, the B-24 Club was taken over by George and Michelle Welsh. Although not a B-24 veteran, George has an extensive background in aviation history, including having worked at the San Diego Aerospace Museum for over 10 years. Michelle's background in computers, design and desktop publishing had proved indispensable in publishing Bomber Legends Magazine and now the Bomber Legends eMagazine. Michelle is the co-founder of Macromedia Flash, a software tool used for creating rich interactive web sites.

In 2003, the last issue of Briefing was published, thus ending a production run of 87 issues, covering 34 years. A completely new publication was born out of Briefing, named Bomber Legends Magazine. Bomber Legends Magazine covered material from ALL bombers from the Second World War, using the same concepts and ideas from Briefing.

Following a run of over three years, the printed version of the magazine was terminated and an electronic version, or eMagazine, was created for use on the web site. This new outlet allows Bomber Legends to make this material available to anyone around the world with a computer and an internet connection.

Bomber Legends is dedicated to preserving the memories of the crews and history of bomber, and fighter/bomber aircraft, from all generations. Included are aircrews, (pilots, gunners, navigators, bombardiers, flight engineers, radio operators), support personnel who maintained these aircraft, as well as those who built bomber aircraft in factories. By providing a forum for former crewmen to tell their stories, Bomber Legends eMagazine preserves an important part of military aviation history for all to read and enjoy.
